Meta has been working to replace ByteDance and Capcut in the US with its new video editing app.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has unveiled the video editing app Edits.
He says the new app is designed to compete with Capcut, which went offline in the US along with TikTok.
Edits are now available for pre-order at the Apple App Store.
The app will be free, with some features being paid.
“A lot is going on these days, but no matter what, our job is to provide the best tools possible for content creators,” Mosseri says of Edits.
Mosseri describes Edits as more than just a video editing tool, calling it a full suite of creative tools. He outlined some of the key features of the app:
- A dedicated section for inspiration and ideation
- Tools for managing ideas in the early stages of content creation
- High-quality camera tools
- All the editing tools users expect
- Ability to share projects with friends and other content creators
- Advanced analytics tools to see how videos perform when they are published on Instagram
Analytics features include a live dashboard, follower engagement details, and a count of how many times users have missed videos. The advanced analytics tools also provide insights into audience demographics, video performance over time, and engagement metrics.
The app will also include popular tools like green screen removal and video overlays, which are used by TikTok users.
According to Mosseri, Meta has been diligently working on the app and Edits for months, and the app will ultimately be significantly different from CapCut, a testament to our long-term commitment to this project.

“Edits will offer a broader range of creative tools and likely have a smaller target audience,” he said. By ‘smaller target audience, ‘Mosseri means that Edits is designed for professional and serious amateur content creators who are looking for advanced editing and analytics tools.
The introduction of the Edits meta app attempts to replace ByteDance-owned apps such as TikTok and Capcom, but Mosseri did not directly address this.
Edits will be available to users starting March 13, 2025.
